Mysterious Myths About Mermaids
79Almost every one out there must have seen the cartoon "The Little Mermaid" or read this book in their childhood. The mermaid has always been a creature of mystery, fantasy and unlimited beauty. Its elegance and splendour has been known to enchant people since a very long time. Even now it is one of the favourite cartoon characters of most children.
Let's take a deeper look into the mermaid mythology, its beginning, various legends, mermaid's part in literature and recorded sightings.
Merfolk As Gods
The mermaid and merman legends begin with the worship of gods as have many mythologies. The earliest representations and descriptions of these now well known creatures can be traced back as far as the eighth century BC.
Babylonian Mythology
The Babylonians were known to worship a sea-god called Oannes, or Ea. Oannes was reputed to have risen from the Erythrean Sea and taught to man the arts and sciences. In the Louvre today can be seen an eighth century wall-scene depicting Oannes as a merman, with the fish-like tail and the upper body of a man.
The Syrian Mythology
The Syrians and the Philistines were also known to have worshipped a Semitic mermaid moon-goddess. The Syrians called her Atargatis while the Philistines knew her as Derceto. It is not unusual or surprising that this moon-goddess was depicted as a mermaid as the tides ebbed and flowed with the moon and this was incorporated into the god-like personifications that we find in their art and the ancient literature. Atargatis is one of the first recorded mermaids and the legend says that her child Semiramis was a normal human and because of this Atargatis was ashamed and killed her lover. Abandoning the infant she became wholly a fish.
Chinese Mythology
In Japanese and Chinese legends there were not only mermaids but also sea-dragons and the dragon-wives.
The Greek and Roman Mythology
Greek and Roman mythology is often placed together as the two are very similar and it is in the literature from these cultures that one finds the first literary description of the mermaid, and indeed the mermen. Poseidon and Neptune were often depicted as half-man and half-fish but the most popular motive of the ancient world that depicts mermen was the representations of the tritons, Triton being the son of the powerful sea-god.
The British Merfolk
The British Isles too had their fair share of merfolk mythology. The Cornish knew mermaids as Merry maids. According to the Cornish legend a mermaid called Moveren had made appearance in the village of Zennor and due to her interest in music she had fallen in love with one of the singers Matthew of the choir of the church. Now when this man found out about the mermaid, he too fell in love with her and together they went to live in the sea. The people of Zennor still say that they can hear Matthew sing to the mermaid and to them the whispers of waves still make sense. The Irish knew merfolks as Merrows or Muirruhgach and some sources write that they lived on dry land below the sea and had enchanted caps that allowed them to pass through the water without drowning, while the women were very beautiful the men had red noses, were piggy eyed, with green hair and teeth.
One more perception that existed in historic times and is found in most myths is that seals are really merfolk disguised under the seal skin. All the legends related to this theory usually start with fishermen finding seal skins and then a beautiful girl comes back for her property as without it she is exiled from her submarine friends. But the property is never returned and the girl is offered protection under the roof of this man. All these myths end in the same way, that is, the seal skin is discovered and the mermaid returns back to her native home. However, some stories concerning this concept are different too, for example a story is told of a man, Herman Perk, who was caught in a storm and was saved by a merman on the price that he would return him his seal skin which was in his store house. Herman perk was true to his word.
Russian mermaid mythology includes the daughters of the water-king who live beneath the sea; the water-nymph that drowns swimmers and the male water-spirit who followed sailors and fishermen. The Africans believed the tales of a fish-wife and river-witches.
But with the growth of science, the fantastic became childish specially during the eighteenth century but began to flourish again amongst the writers with the Romantic Movement at the turn of this century. It was also the time however for the logical minded to do their utmost to dispel the myth of the mermaid, claiming that all the recorded sightings were simply men who'd been at sea too long and so when a seal, porpoise, dugong or manatee was spotted from the ship they'd swear they'd seen a mermaid.
Mermaids and literature
In literature the mermaid began to be used as a description of women, rather than an identification of the creature herself. The mermaid had become a metaphor! Chaucer takes the mermaid and uses her as a scholarly metaphor for beautiful but dangerous song. Shakespeare is known to have used such a device; Comedy of Errors for example:
"O, train me not, sweet mermaid, with thy note,
To drown me in thy sister's flood of tears: Sing, siren, for thyself and I will dote."
Oberon's vision of a mermaid in Shake-speare's A Mid-summer Night's Dream, is not however used as a metaphor:
"Once I sat upon a promontory,
And heard a mermaid on a dolphin's back
Uttering such dulcet and harmonious breath
That the rude sea grew civil at her song
And certain stars shot madly from their spheres,
To hear the sea-maid's music."
John Donne, however, uses the mermaid as myth in his skeptical song where he doubts constancy in women. More likely than finding this constancy in women he believes would be to:
"Goe, and catche a falling starred"
Children's stories are filled with mermaids again. The mermaid figures in art once again allowing the artist to portray the division within human nature of the "animal" and the intellectual thinking; represented by the tail of the mermaid and that human part of her that wishes to gain a soul, the prime example being The Little Mermaid by Hans Andersen where the young mermaid gains a soul through her faithfulness. It is a great marketing tool for toys and cartoons.
Sightings
There have been recorded sightings from fishermen, women, men of reputation within the community of mermaids and mermen. Some are quite convincing while others are a little vague. Nonetheless they make a good reading.
The most recent sighting is of 1947 when an eighty-year-old fisherman reported that he had seen a mermaid ‘in the sea about twenty yards from the shore, sitting combing her hair on a floating herring box used to preserve live lobsters. Unfortunately, as soon as the mermaid looked round, she realized that she had been seen, and plunged into the sea. But no questioning could shake the old fisherman's firm conviction: he was adamant that he had seen a mermaid.'
Off the coast of Britain, June 4, 1857, Shipping Gazette, reported Scottish seaman had spotted a creature, ‘in the shape of a woman with dark complexion, and comely face.'
Off the Isle of Yell, 1833, six fishermen reported that their fishing line had become entangled with a mermaid. They said they had kept her on board their boat for three hours, and said that she was about three feet long. She ‘offered no resistance nor attempted to bite,' but she moaned piteously. ‘A few stiff bristles were on top of the head, extending down to the shoulder, and these she could erect and depress at pleasure, something like a crest.' She had neither gill nor fins and there were no scales on her body. The fishermen who were very superstitious threw her overboard eventually and said that she dived ‘in a perpendicular direction.'
The story was heard from the skipper by a Mr Edmondson who in turn told the Professor of Natural History at the University of Edinburgh:
"Not one of the six men dreamed of a doubt of its being a mermaid, and it could not be suggested that they were influenced by their fears, for the mermaid is not an object of terror to fishermen, it is rather a welcome guest, and danger is apprehended from its experiencing bad treatment... The usual resources of skepticism that the seals and other sea-animals appearing under certain circumstances operating upon an excited imagination and so producing ocular illusion, cannot avail here. It is quite impossible that six Shetland fishermen could commit such a mistake."
In the outer Hebrides, about 1830, women cutting seaweed reported they had met a creature of female form playing happily off the shore. A few days later her dead body was found two miles from where she had first been seen. The description of the creature was recorded thus, ‘the upper part of the creature was about the size of a well-fed child of three or four years of age, with an abnormally developed breast. The hair was long, dark and glossy while the skin was white, soft and tender. The lower part of the body was like a salmon, but without scales.
Campbell town, John M'isaac, a farmer, October 29, 1811, made a sworn statement to the Sheriff-substitute and the parish minister that he had met a mermaid in Campbell town. The description he gave ran for more than five hundred words and was so convincing that Rev. Dr George Robertson, Rev. Norman MacLeod, and James Maxwell, Esq., Chamberlain of Mull wrote that they were, ‘satisfied that he was impressed with a perfect belief, that the appearance of the animal he has described was such as he has represented it to be.'
Now the mermaid becomes a symbol of fun and fantasy rather than an accepted part of cultural, tradition and awe. She is seen as a figure of eroticism mixed with fear of the unknown, or the animal side of her nature. No matter how the mermaid is used or what role she plays she will always retain her mysterious air.

I know mermaids are real. I create them from ceramic molds and chalkware. As I hold each one in my hand with strokes of a brush their gorgeous eyes begin to sparkle, ruby red lips seem to smile a beautiful smile - plus my girls/mermaids have expensive tatstes. They love vintage jewelry in their hair and pearls, crushed shells and lots of bling. I bring babies to life and love those Divas. Then shey swim away to new homes where they are displayed on walls - they are all exhibitionists:) But, they prefer powder rooms to be near the water. Let's stay in touch. I am going to become your fan....
This Really Helps
cool hub page. it helped me in an english project. Thnx!
nice information
I know mermaids are real based on the stories I have heared. A friend who I know to be true told me a story of his very good friend who actually shake the cold hands of a mermaid, it goes like this he was sleeping over his girlfriend's house where she lives with her mother who is said to be a Spiritualist (someone who is intuch with the spriual world or belive in black magic) late that night his girlfriend awake him and ask him to fallow her and her mother outback as they had somthing to show him, there was a pool and her mother began to chant funny words over it when sudenly he say the water started bubbling up then appeared right beside him from out of the water was a woman sitting on the edge of the pool, he jumped away frightened with fear to see a lady with long dark hair, pale white skin and the lower half of fish, He was then reasured by his girl friend and her mother who was already in communication the mysterious creature that she would'nt harm him and he had no need to be afraid his moter in law introduce him to the mermaid and that was when she held her hand out for to shake it as a human being introduced would. She seemed peaceful and intellegent no difrent from a human only she had no feet only a fish tale and some how she must be magical because she appeared from nowehere. Her hands were soft and cold he said and for some reason "I belive him because he was still shaken with fear when he told me his story the mornig after it occourred " he also said that the mermaids were protectors and that the mermaid would protect him and keep him from harm. Staccee says : Mermaids exist in Jamaica peace am out .
I love this hub... and the mermaid in my backyard!
there r no mermaids in jamaica
u dont know what u r talking about, unless u ran them all away.
They are in jamaica. If u want I can show u one !
i love mermaids and I now they are real.
Great stuff, man.I did a hub on Urban Legends in my country, and I featured Mermaids too.
i wish i could see 1 real mermaid
I beleive mermaids have the right hide from u. they're just scared that that one of u r going 2 get them and hurt it just like in 1860's.But we still come out of the water when it feel safe.
yeah i do think they exist, people cant just start talking about sth that doesnt exist, u know when u want smoke, u must make a fire..maybe mermaids have been found already and are being hidden from the world in some research institute or sth..and there s enough evidence about atlantis too...just google it..
I was once meditating with a large crystal i had recently found or which had come to me the day after a spiritualist told me I was a recorder. I did not know what the woman meant but the next day shopping for stones a man said to me I have recorders so I purchased my only large piece of crystal. The synchronicity of the words rang out in my inner ear with the spiritualists words. While meditating with this huge hunk of stone on my third eye, i layed down in front of an armoire. It had a huge crystal mirror on the front of it. Now i have no idea if the beveled leaded crystal amplified my recorder crystal but the sea started coming out of the mirror into my bedroom. I came back into my body gasping and sputtering water. the room was bone dry. I was afraid. What if i had drowned on the floor of my own bedroom? I have always resonated with mermaid lore and the sea and even have been named after it at birth. What does this all have to do with anything? the universe only shows its true face to us when it has something to communicate. I believe in mermaids.
mermaids do NOT exist. if you can prove it go ahead but i know you can't. even if they did exist which they dont they would not live in jamaica!!!
I have always believed in mermaids. No one's been able to go to the very bottom of the sea yet, so that's my escuse for no one ever finding them. Besides manatees & seals look nothing like mermaids : )
Wonderful evergreen Hub! Very well done! I swim for fitness and the mermaid is near and dear to our hearts!
sorry to rain on all your scietific and mythologic answers but mermaids are infact true to some of us including me ad having the need to have answers to all of life's unexplained relics is so ignorant....just because you can't find yourself believing in them doesnt mean it isnt true.....i was born and raised in jamaica and my grandmother is both an evangelist and a spiritualist and my uncle himself as come across one of these things are they are not like the fairy tale movies that portray them...and the fact that you say they wouldnt be in jamaica is not logical....if anything like that was to be anywhere the caribbean is just where you would find them not off the coast of maine! but long story short i'm a high school student who was just given a topic on this and your site help alot with free speech on all but unless you know something about it personally all these logical explanation your trying to come up with really is irelivant.
i also believe in mermaids but one things i do not understand about mermaids is that my nany said that mermaids in her culture is called mami watar and mermaids are devils which enter your body and control you and cuz maybe u went and disturb them in the ocean it might even enter any humans body and control it just to disturb u and to kill it is by serius prayers, strong prayers and my aunt told me that mermaids some times disturb u because god put us in land and god put them in the oceans so us humans decided to come there so now i am really complicated but i know god is powerful he can ofcoarse create a thing like this and out there they are out there.
This page was realy helpful, i would love to see one before i die!
I luv mermaids there so amazing and intelligent well so i think i do belive in mermaids and someday before i die if there is any sort of mermaid i whould luv to met her/him that would be the best day of me life yeah of course i would be afraid but after a while i would get use to her/him and i dont know it would rock......scince im only 14 i still live my mom and shes just like me shes luvs urban legends and myths and she belives in them to just like me but back to what i was saying scine my mom luvs animals and were we live all u can have is fish birds and hasters/gunia pigs/mice/rats we choose fish and we have 2 tanks and i luv to star at our fish and wounder and wish that i could be a mermaid and swim with them i luv mermaids so much but i sooo would not want to be a mermaid all my life cause i luv my family
MERMAIDS ARE REAL AND WHEN MY REPORT ON MERMAIDS COME OUT ON MY BLOG WHICH IS VERY POPULAR WILL SHOW YOU AND IM GOING THROUGH MANY SITES FOR INFORMATION
Many of you misinterpreted this information. It is not fact, but facts of myths and urban legendry from history. Mermiads are not real, alack another abnormalty created by the hunger of human nature that cannot understand the world around them--and hence they connect the unncertainty to mythological creatures like mermaids. Do NOT be fooled, into thinking that mermaids exist.
I was so curious in this topic I just could'nt get my mind off of it so I thought hey maybe they might exist so I thought to just look it up and see. I didn't get my answer but I found proof on Youtube that they do exist!
I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING VINTAGE MERMAIDS FOR A VERY LONG TIME NOW. IF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT THERE ARE PEOPLE AND CREATURES OF ALL KIND ON LAND SO WHY CAN'T THERE BE A HUMAN FORM UNDERWATER? IN MY ROOM I HAVE MANY SHELVES FULL OF MERMAIDS. MY GRANDMOTHER IS THE ONE WHO GOT ME INTO THEM.{SHE DOES CARDS FOR HALLMARK} I HAVE MANY OLD AND NEW BOOKS THAT STATE DOWN THE HISTORY OF MERMAIDS AND DIFFERENT OPINIONS FROM PEOPLE ALL AROUND THE WORLD. EVERYWHERE WE GO I ALWAYS TRY TO CONVINCE MY PARENTS TO STOP AT AN ANTIQUE SHOP TO LOOK FOR THEM. I BELIEVE THAT MERMAIDS DO EXIST.
mermaids did exist, trust me and i can prove it!!!
What a fun read! Thanks for the cool info, great hub!
Nice Hub - topics like this always appeal to the human desire to believe there is more to the world that science can explain.
Seriosuly i don't think they are for real.
Saw most of the comments insisting that they are real, how are you gonna prove it? By digging articles from the past?
Believe it and they are real, believe not and they are unreal.
i wish i could see a mermaid. but they dont have proof that they are real. my friend ...... has a rock and a mermaid is carved in it but i don`t think its real
LOL
SIEGFRIED OUT
I am definately sure that mermaids exsist. Its not like hundreds of different cultures years a part could make up the same creature! They must be real or were once real
this is cool but when i check out the pic.s of them, they're scary
Unknown animals are still being discovered these days so I think that there are still others which remains to be unfolded, including mermaids and mermen. Great hub, by the way.
good work hub
PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!! its a freaking mythical creature!!!!! it doesn't exist. if u believe that they exist ur REALLY gollable. and naive
Jest because you haven't seen a mermaid doesn't mean they don't exist some times it's always better to believe in what you can't see
hi people mermaids are real ive seen one,
i even got a necklace from one i am friends with one
plz dont say there not real
u might be wrong
but i know im right they r real
u must believe
in your heart,
not your soul
i belive that mermaids are real i do not have proof but i will soon i dont know for a fact if they live in jamaica but i think they do my mom clamided she has spotted one in jamaica befor. but i for one strongly belive that there are mermaids out there living their lives like we are living ours and enjoying it.i belive that mermaids do not want to be disturbed so they hide at the botom of the ocean or sea!! thats just my opinion you can belive what u want!!!!!
mermaids are not real or fake! you chose to believe one or the other
I enjoy pretending that they are real. Some how, even though i'm told they arent, i have this feeling that they are real. Maybe they are and God just hasnt let that be known to us yet. But until the great day when the scientist says yes or no, I'll believe.
mermaids are pretty. but they smell funny. i've seen one in realy life. can't believe itt. omg !
Actually they really exist. Most of them have blondish hair and their complexion is fair or reddish brown in the Philippines. Some of them are ugly and some some are beautiful, it depends what place they lived. Their most hating rival is the siokoy. Some of them are bad and good. They are really friendly and sometimes they invite you to their homes. You can call them if you want. They usually help mankind from drowning. They're the best. They really like a woman with long hair. Their tails are really colorful.
Hey people. I am a mermaid beliver because people all over the world have seen them. Don't tell me they all had hallucinations. Also, my proof is that people way back have seen them before there was even contact with the rest of the world. Before the New World was dicovered(North and South America). Also, a lot of non belivers say that the men were horny or sexually frustated but, woman and children have seen them too How about that. Now what salt. all you non belivers are feeeling salty. Also, God prbably put mermaids at the bottom of the ocean so humans wouldn't mess with them or make experiments with them. Beacause if someone found a mermaid they probably wouldn't tell people so they wouldn't kill them or mess with them. Humans are responsible for the extinction of many creatures.
thanks! that really is interesting! that's something magical, inaccessible. i am a writer and have a big imagination.after reading this,i wrote a tale.they agreed to publish. mermaid is a creature that not everyone can see. those, who believe may travel in the world of the magic.
mermaids r so real im a mermaid believwme so dont say theyre not real belive theyre real so please belie in us dont doubt our ppowers like mt heat power beliee mr im not lieing
Our imaginations lead us to where proof is not there, There are diffrent types of mermaids, there is the people with fish tails and there is also women who for thousands of recorded and unrecorded years have been diving into water to provide for there families, now its been taboo in many cultures for women to work, or be better at work than men. Women for some reason have been better for holding there breath and are better at dealing with the cold. Families who love these women cover it up with folklore saying there are mermaids in the water and that they will pull you in if you go near them. Preists and others curse at them as if they are devils damned to go to hell. And lately due to technoledgy there has been less sightings of them in cold water. I am also facinated with diffrent concepts that humans evolved from the water, which scientificaly could be proven, depending on the definition of the therory. I beleive in women being strong hard working spiritual beings and I also beleive in some beautiful theories. I have yet to meet a person of with a fish tail but I have met women called mermaids.
Well, i am a mermaid
Has anyone here heard of the Water Ape Hypothisis? I have read Max Westenhofers scientific ideas and concepts, as well as others. And there are acient writing stating we came from the mudd and water from Afria 5000 years ago from the Sumerians and in China the Great Fu Xi in the Yellow River over 2000 years ago of course they draw pictures of the Great Leader with a fishtale and call him a god. Then of course there is the Romans, Greeks... which many have already heard. Its just a idea. I believe in evolution but what evolution has to offer and what science will show eventually. Remember when the scifi movies talked about cloning 25 years ago lol now its sad science. Or how lasers were used for war fair 30 years ago in movies. It seems I have alot to learn in the years ahead of me, I just hope humanity does things humanly. lol. Oh yea nice to meet you Caitlynn. I think of my self as a mermaid too, although I have legs I am very spiritual and love the earth and water, I have had many years of swimming in and out of college. Have swam in the coldist clear water its beautiful. I also love my legs. lol
some people are butt heads in this world
i love mermaids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mermaids are cool
mermaids are a some the can swim really fast i think it is cool
i love to hear stories about mermaids.
My grandmother used to tell us a story about mermaids. It is a story about her experience when she was still young during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines. She said that there was a well connected to the sea in their place and it was there where she saw a beautiful woman naked but its body ended in fish tail. She has white teeth, long hair and a slim body but only she cannot talk. My grandmother reported this to the villagers who said that it was a "kataw", the native word for mermaid. I myself do not believe in mermaids yet their stories really fascinated me. In fact I collected statues and figurines of them, I even collected stories about them.
We also have a belief here in our island that children should not go near the rivers during noontime for it is the time that mermaids will come out and drag children to the sea and make them their children. Mermaids love to take good care of children.
i know memaids are real bbutt as they touch land they become humans butt who knows when anyone sees a mermaid and will get astonishment. overrrr the seas therre are 70 mermaids with huge tails and there are sirens who protect them from seein what is at the top of tthe sea and oceans some ttimes we see a huge tail in seas or the
oceans i love memaids 70!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the are only in your imaginations that is not true
People have different imaginations. some people think they already know whats out there,(by eating and watching television. Few are connected to nature. And Some just want to know more about what they love.
But, does anybody actually know what's out there?
Little did you know that only you can decide. You my not go far but, your creativity spans only as vast as you will let it. If not(calling all couch potatoes) DREAM ON!
As for others don't let anyone tell you otherwise. you are what you are and far more!
Remember there is a whole new universe to be discovered!!!
hey, idk what u r talking about but i do beleive and i've tried everything... i even shaved my head (for real) trying to become a mermaid and NOTHING has worked please help im starting to lose belief dont give me crap that you have seen one or that you are a mermaid and you are lying i NEED somthing that will actually work PLEASE HELP!!!!!

i live in guyana and in my country mermaids are called watermumma.im kinda skeptical on the the existance of mermaids but i know of many stories that were told of them in the olden days.i once knew of this poor man who claimed that he found a mermaid comb and he placed it in salt water hence becoming rich.however unrealistic it may seem we all believe what we want to.there are alot of urban myths like the existance of fireballs,ol'huigue, moon gazers and so on.guyana was once ruled by the dutch back in the days and the land on which i live was once a berrial ground for the dutch.
hi my name is dante and im 10 years old and im trying to find out about mermaids.
oh and im the only girl in my school who study`s this kind stuff and i think they are real and i would love some help and i will come on this site every day and i hope you can put some information on the site to help me. senseraly your da
I was wondering if there are any mermaid live by now,and I also want to know if there are mermaids deep in the sea. I wanted to know what is they look like ,I just want it know because im interested in myths, legends and an extaordinary stories.
hi im ten and wanting to know if there real or myth i dont know maby i can find out.
I had a dream that I was a mermaid as big a dolphin. It was so real. I was beautiful. I had long hair and a beautiful tail and breasts. I could swim fast and do flips and jump high out of the water into the air. I woke up still feeling the wetness of the ocean and the excitement. Every since then, I have been drawn to this mermaid thing. I wonder if my dream means anything.
if mermaids were or are real why are they hiding? If they want poeple to believe in them then why do they not show us they are real?
mermaids EXISTS....why shouldn't we believe in mermaids? The universe is frigging enormous. And we are not the only living beings living in it. We ourselves exist from apes so why cant some humans who had lived near the shore millions of years ago evolved into mermaids and mermens? I haven't seen one but i surely do beleive that they do exist.
im not here to argue or shove my opinion down someones throat but i am here to say everyone is entitled to their own beleifs and those of whom, who think that a different beleif is wrong are mearly ignorant and compensating for their own insecurities in their own beliefs. i am using as much info i can find on the mermaid tale to compile my own version of the creature.
mermaids are very real i have seen one before
when does a marmaid start to develope her ways with what age
i live near the beach in front of boracay.. i dont believe i mermaids but one night ive seen a strange white creature i thought it was a dog it was far from me so i run forward and it jumped into the water and the water glows in too scared and run back home and untill now i still wonder what that is because if thats a dog it wouldnt jump into the water i never tell anyone because i dont want them to think im crazy....
real
the only reason why storys like this that people today think are lie's is that is doesnt have any evidence to back it up. but who know's you may not need evidence.
There are two videos on YouTube that seem very real and have Mermaids and I am going to say it seems impossible to fake the first though the second is kind of difficult to tell
because water distorted
everything so it could be
someone bending their legs in a
suit but both are odd
At Paula Amicio the glow may have just been bioluminescent organisims like some plankton that got disturbed by whatever jumped in.
At Paula Amic
when sth is histori it becames into a legent and after this we call it myth. Mermaides are real. if you will read books about magic you will fint out that we cant see somethings not because they dont exist but because we don t believe anymore.many people in agiant world were talking with mermaids and there was a child ones that was drowning and some how he survived in peacific ocean ...
mermaids are real.i know that they r out there somewere,hiding,playing, doing things,but F.Y.I. if u don't belive
u wi ll never have wishes come true.u should belive in them and maybe, just maybe,u will see 1.I LOVE MERMAIDS!i pray almost every night that i will someday see 1,maybe even be 1!that would be soooo cool!
ty :) it realy help me
I, sincerely beleive in mermaids. & the Atlantis stuff sounds like it COULD be real, but like the guy said, apparently in this new aera we need scientific evidence to make a critical desiscion on what is real and what is not. I only beleive in mermaids because I beleive nothing is impossible. Everything is possible, you just have to find it when you least expect it. And, the mermaid myth has been around for god only knows how many years! Myths and legends don`t just appear out of nowhere, something MUST have people back then, beleiveing that they really did see a woman brushing her hair with a comb of pearl with the torso and face of a woman and the lower half of a fish or sea animal. If mermaids have not revealed themselves now, then they lie in the shadows of the ocean undiscovered, And glad of it.
wow!! this all really helped me on my paper for MYTHOLOGY you guys need to wake up and relize mermiads arent real! if they were youd know it for sure.
i feel mermaids are real just dont want to be found nore seen
These are spirits or supernatural beigns i believe they are in the world today but i have not seen them. They are demons or agents of satan or maybe parts of the fallen angels
wow Mermaids i love Mermaids
i av always love the info about thm love to read this blog :)
i thing mermaids really exists because i talked to one
I need some help thinking about this are mermaids still alive are were they alive a long time ago are something but i think maybe being a mermaid would be so cool to have the tail and every thing i want to be a mermaid so do you guys have a spell or do you guys think that mermaids are fake to because i dont.
I always thought mermaid s where. Real. :)
FYI Hassam, there is proof of Atlantis. In the Aegian sea, there was a Greek civilization built on a volcanic island. The island was new, the volcano was active. It went off, people from Atlantis fled to Athens then spread over Greece. The volcano went off, rather violently, and 90% of the island exploded. In my Ancient History class, we had to watch this National Geographic (I think it was NG. It was last year) video about it. Look it up, and don't say there is not been any information on it, as there clearly is, when you have not actually researched it like the smart people among you do. I am NOT making this up. You can look up the video if you don't want to believe a person who's IQ is 165+
Sorry if this seems rude, but I get pissed off by know it alls who don't even bother to look the crap up before they say something.
Have you guys ever seen a mermaid before? us mermaids don't like to see comments like your's. so please stop you don't know much about us!
p.s. don't comment on things you don't know anything about o.k.
mermaids from round lake, Cammas :)
i saw a video than starting believing it before that never
I really want to see a mermaid in real life and be one too I really BELIVE in MERMAIDS I wish I have the power
people people, calm down with all this Mermade stuff, the truth is, we don't have to prove that mermaids exist, just like if u r religious, u dont see ur god(really hope dat is not a bad thing to say) so dont judge it yet, but u can do wat u wanna do believe or not, oh and also u dont know if mermades do exist, and i am with u bella, i want to meet a mermaid 2.
how could mermaids live in the water and yet come outside to sit on rocks and stuff? do they have both gills and lungs? also, how come we have not found any proof of their existance even tho we have satalites and all that nifty stuff, the only way we wouldnt be able to find them is if they lived in like the deepest part of the ocean, but then they cant have the "tender skin" thing, they would be crushed to a quivering blob of green mush. just my ideas
Mermaids are real just as dinosours are real. maybe mermaids were extinct when the dinosours died. We just havent found them yet. they are probaly humans like us but we dont relize it.
I LOVE YOU MERMAID
I LOVE YOU MERMAID DOCBE CAUSE THER ARE COOL MERMAID
mermaids exist they are evil water dwellers
well, if mermaids do exist, their elusiveness is a credit to them. Also, I think that there is a lot of things that go on in this world that the government like to keep quiet, keep an open mind I say, its nice to have evidence but lack of it doesnt prove that things are not real either x
I think that mermaids and mermans do have a slite chance of being real. You never know what can be real or fake ,just like god or the devil ,you never know until you see.
i dont know if mermaids really are here or not. i would like to believe it if someone would tell me a story about how they saw a mermaid, but how would you be able to believe that person fully? i love mermaids i think that they are really something special because so many people care to take the time to learn about them, even if they believe in them or not. i really want to see one with my own eyes. i wouldnt take the time to convince someone that i saw one ill just tell my story and if they believe than that would be fine but if they wouldnt, then i wouldnt try to convince them. i would just keep it to myself..because only you know what you see.
Wow! This is really interesting. The subject of mermaids has always interested me. I honestly have no idea wether they exist or not.
Thank u
I think mermaids are interesting I don`t know if mermaids are real but if God wanted to he could create them. But if they`re real I would love to meet one someday they`re just so beautiful and neat!
It doesn't mean you didn't see a mermaid that it doesn't exist ok you are not going to believe me but im a mermaid with powers if i touch water my tail grows but its a secret
I was told by my boyfriend that in his home town there was a man who was walking late night passing a lake there was no one around and he heard something in the water and when he looked it was a mermaid and she told him I need
thanx man u helpt me alot in literature especially that song wish u were also here to teach me but ur not still tanxing u alot kk
I THINK THAT NO ONE CAN SAY ANYTHING WITHOUT HAVING AN EXPERIANCE... TO SAY THAT ALL MERMAIDS ARE GOOD IS NOT TRUE AND TO SAY THAT ALL MERMAIDS ARE BAD IS ALSO NOT TRUE...SO KEEP YOUR VIEWS TILL YOU MEET ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!MYSTERY AWAITS TO BE OPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All things that are fairy tales are mysteries we don't know if they're real.Mermaids are things that we don't know if they're real or not,so people shouldn't judge them.Mermaids are pretty and intellagent, the myth about Atlantis is very close to mermaids!See when Atlantis sank they say that the people that lived in Atlantis were so smart they some how grew a tail and gills!Since i'm a christian (I PROMISE I DON'T WANT TO INSULT OR AFFEND ANY OTHER RELIGN!!!!) I think that God didn't want them to die he just wanted all the power to go away,so he gave them the power to breathe under and above water!Thats my story on how mermaids came!!!
