A monument is a structure which is built to commemorate a person or an important event. A monument may also be built to give out a message or to represent the art culture of a society.

In short any thing that represents the important events of the past is categorized as monuments. Monuments are an important part of historical artifacts as they represent important personalities and events of the past.

There are thousands of monuments all over the world each symbolizing an important event or a personality or a group of the past; each holds a particular message. Out of these many some of the very popular monuments are mentioned below:

The Parthenon of Greece, which is a symbol of the ancient Greece and the Athenian democracy, is one of the greatest monuments of the world.

The monument is present in Acropolis, Athens and was built in 438 BC and was the temple of the goddess Athena.

The temple remained intact till about the 5th century AD. Today, although the temple is in ruins, it is still considered as an important monument of the past.

The pantheon is another very famous and historical monument built by the ancient Romans.

The pantheon was built in 27 BC and was the temple of all the gods.

During the first century the pantheon was rebuilt by Hadrian and as given its present circular shape.

The best thing about the monument is that it is still perfectly preserved today and has served as a place for worship for nearly 20 centuries.

The Great Alhambra Of Spain

The Alhambra is located in Granada, Spain.

Its construction begun in 1248 and it was completed in 1354.

The Alhambra is a palace which was built for the Moorish monarchs of Granada.

Alhambra is not only a palace but it was also built as a fortress surrounded by a highly fortified wall having more than a mile of perimeter.

The Alhambra without a doubt is the greatest masterpiece of the Muslim architecture.

The tower of London covers 13 acres of the land at the North side of Thames and is a group of towers and buildings.

The central tower which is called the white tower was built 1078 AD during the rule of William the conqueror.

The tower was initially built as a fortress and royal residence but later it was used as a prison.

Another famous of the London tower is the bloody tower which is believed to be associated with Anne Boleyn.

The Taj Mahal Of Agra

The Taj Mahal is one the greatest wonders of the world and was built by the Mogul emperor Shah Jehan as a tomb of his beloved wife Noor Jehan.

The construction of the tomb began in 1632 and was completed in 1650.

The Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful buildings of the world and is the best construction of the Mogul architecture.

The tomb has a white dome and is completely made of marble.

The great wall of China is also, just like Taj Mehal, is included in the list of the Seven Wonders of the World.

The wall is 1400m long and is made of earth and stone. The wall was built in 214 BC by the emperor Ch’in Shin Huang Ti.

It was built to defend the city against the attacks of the nomadic tribes.
